The Dot and Co company is a French SARL (acronym meaning Limited Liability Company) with a capital of 30 000 Euros, and has been created by two individuals, Patrick Mevzek and Jules Vo-Dinh. The company depends only on its own funds.
It is already planned after the company is financially stable to work alongside a non-profit organization that would be created for the sole purpose of enabling anyone wishing so (notably clients but also all staff at Dot and Co) to be «officially» involved in Dot and Co business, by being member of this organization (which itself can possess a part of the company’s capital), and be really allowed to make its voice heard.
Some companies are already using a similar structure, like the French company Easter-Eggs whose capital is owned at 99.8% by the Easter-Eggs non-profit organization which is itself owned by all employees of the company. This idea (one employee = one voice) ensures that the capital remains entirely in control of company’s employees and a democratic working.
We envision later on to have Dot and Co running with a similar idea so that the company is mainly owned by people working in it, and still open to people working with it (clients, suppliers, partners). This philosophy is written down in company’s legal statutes.
We would like that our clients (final users of domain names) can use Dot and Co to express their ideas and to put pressure through us on decisions that are going to be taken regarding Internet naming governance.
Patrick Mevzek, a 28 years old engineer when the company was created, has worked 3 years at a French registrar where he built the technical infrastructure as well as the customer care team and all operating procedures. He also participated in IETF working groups about development of new Internet procotols related to domain names.
Jules Vo-Dinh, after having worked during 8 years in show business, has developed an interest about Internet projects. He is not currently an associate of the company anymore.
